On April 13, 2023, the Southern Gerontological Society presented the Joyful Voices Chorus with their 2023 Best Practices Award at a luncheon ceremony held in Norfolk, VA. The SGS is a network of the South's most respected gerontology professionals. It is an organization that continues to work towards building bridges between research and practice in the field of aging. Their representation includes the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia.
As we celebrated our 5-year anniversary in the spring of 2023, Joyful Voices Chorus members were honored to have received this outstanding recognition. We are grateful to all who support us in our mission to enrich the lives of our members and to educate the community in striving to eliminate the stigma surrounding Alzheimer's.
The VA Commonwealth Council on Aging's Best Practices Award Committee selected the Joyful Voices Chorus as this year's Second-Place Winner of their 2023 Best Practices Award. The chorus received a lovely plaque as well as a $3,500.00 monetary award provided by Dominion Energy and AARP Virginia.
From the Award Committee…….
“As we all rise to meet the opportunities and challenges of serving a growing older adult population, we share our best practices and applaud our accomplishments. The Best Practices Awards Committee and the full Commonwealth Council on Aging admire your commitment to and innovation in serving older Virginians and their families. We hope others will follow your lead to develop similar programs. Thank you for working to ensure that Virginia remains a great place for all to grow older.”
We at Joyful Voices extend our sincere gratitude to the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DAR), the Commonwealth Council on Aging (CCOA), AARP of Virginia and Dominion Energy for this recognition and generous award.
